Farmers Insurance will be the first major carrier in California to offer a ridesharing endorsement that will protect you while you, or your friends, drive passengers! Get a hold of us as soon as possible to get a quote. Don’t compromise your hard work.

There is a lot of talk around these ridesharing companies, most notably LYFT and UBER. Are they just a fad? Can you trust strangers to give you a ride? What tests are in place to make sure your driver is a good driver? Well, I’m not here to answer all these questions though I’m sure these major companies have developed a safe system. In fact, for the most part, I know they have. I know a few people who have driven for Lyft and they’ve explained to me the process they had to go through before they were able to start driving.

Requirements are as follows:

You have to be at least 21 years old, have an active U.S. driver’s license, must have a clean DMV driving record, pass a background check, valid insurance, your vehicle has to meet Lyft’s local government’s standards of safety, you have to be interviewed by “mentors” (experienced Lyft drivers who had 50+ rides logged), and finally you have do a test drive with the mentors.

Here’s what’s interesting. The companies have their own insurance protecting themselves and drivers have their own auto insurance because it’s the law, but it EXCLUDES using your vehicle as a limo or taxi service (ie. Ride-sharing). So what happens if you, as a Lyft or Uber driver, get in an accident and your passengers are hurt? What will protect you financially?

Except now, to swoop in and save the day, Farmers Insurance offers a Ridesharing Endorsement which protects you in the event of an accident.
